Summary, etc. From the groundbreaking essays collected by Anatalio Ubalde in this volume, we learn that "Pilipino (AMERICAN) ARCHITECTURE" is not the purely virtual idea that it might initially seem. In Ubalde`s own contributions and those of Flores, Pascual, Galedo, Realce, Gutierrez, and Martinez, we see the tantalizing glimmers of its historical varieties and expression. One precious insight elaborated throughout this anthology is the way in which Pilipino American institutions. The essays by Ambrosio, Orpilla and especially Enrique bonus point up a complementary, but no less fundamental, insight: the creative and agentive Pilipino notions of space and place should constitute the first principles of all attempts to understand the cognitive mappings and built environment of Pilipino Americans. We are especially indebted to Ubalde, a promising student of Pilipino architecture, for this collective attempt to open up yet another unexplored aspect of Pilipino cultures and histories.
