The Philippines is at the crossroads of history, having just shed a regime that lasted 20 years and taken on a new administration with fresh perspec- tive of the prospects awaiting the country during the rest of the 20th century. It is thus imperative to review old ties, reasses their viability and trace their development over the years. By examining the past, we may be able to learn from it and see through the mist of the future. And with the populism that pervades the present government, this book would enable a more informed general public to participate more actively in the deliberations to establish a new thrust in foreign policy.
