A Laboratory Manual of Comparative Embryology of the Vertebrates is designed for the use of BS Biology students in higher years. It is, therefore, important that basic biological concepts have been taken by the students who will use this manual. This manual comprises the concepts of the development of embryo of representative animals focusing on the extent of their similarities and differences and their unique characteristics. Specifically, this covers the development of the sex cells, the process of matting and fertilization and the progressive changes during the embryonic advances of the vertebrates. Additional highlights of the activities are the actual incubation of embryo and exposure to some embryo culture procedures. Strategically, laboratory exercises shall be achieved through slide viewing, actual preparation of specimens and field exposures. Most embryonic structures are presented through actual colored pictures from prepared slides, to make viewing and identification of such easier. It should be noted that some exercises need a continuous observation, thus, it is unavoidable that two exercises will be done in one session but it is assured that management of time in the laboratory is well-planned to ensure that all students can perform and finish the activities at the desired period. There are some exercises, however, which were limited to the use of only 1 or 2 representative animal(s) due to the unavailability of reliable laboratory procedures. In spite of this limitation, this manual completely introduces the fundamental of Embryology in the laboratory. --Preface of the book
