This book identifies three postulates as basic to philosophical and in fact, to rational thinking. The first two were first proposed by Parmenides of Elea and these can be constructed out of fragment 6 of his poem. "The Way of Truth," which avers: That which is conceivable or speakable must be, for it is possible for it, but not for nothing, to be... The third postulate is our existential proposition: "To be is to make a difference," which we take to replace the more subjective proposition of Berkeley, to wit: "To be is to be perceived."
