From colonial to liberation psychology : the Philippine experience / Virgilio G. Enriquez.

The book is an organized material of indigenous psychology concepts culled from different treatises by the author based on his interviews of psychology professors, practitioners, and social researchers as well as his knowledge acquired in the course of teaching in the different universities in the Philippines and other countries. Some of these concepts were first presented in conferences on sikolohiyang Pilipino (Philippine psychology) and later published as part of the proceedings. The book includes a discussion on the colonial background of psychology in the Philippines and the subsequent development of psychological thought in the country. The author traced this development against the backdrop of historical events and issues that forged the direction of the indigenous social science movement in the Philippines. From this perspective, several important social pschological concepts have been tapped and developed that hopefully would lead to a more accurate understanding of the Filipino and his social reality. This book is pioneering attempt to apply indigenous Philippine psychology to the different areas of Filipino life, such as health, education, language, agriculture, law arts, and sports.
