Orthodoxy and history in the Muslim-Mindanao narrative / Patricio N. Abinales. - Quezon City : Ateneo de Manila University Press, c2010. - xii, 265 pages 23 cm.

Where should we locate Muslim Mindanao in the story of the Philippines? The island's narratives are framed by the ebb and flow of a "people's resistance" against a Philippine state-colonial and post-colonial-seeking to impose its authority on and bound the island to the national body politic. This eternal opposition, embedded in an "Islamic" identity and values system and a political authority distinct from the rest of the Philippines, obscures a more complex portrait of the island and its peoples. This volume explores themes left out by the orthodox view and locates them in the context of structures and general trends. The focus of these essays are institutional (national authority, armies, local states, economic agencies) and politico-organizational (movements, parties, patronage networks).
