| Summary, etc. | Tuna fishery constitutes the largest and most important fishery in the Philippines. Widely distributed, this resource is transnational in distribution and transcends national maritime jurisdictional boundaries. The book is a first compedium of information gathered by the author since 1979 on the biology and fishery of important tunas. It also includes data on the activities, policies and problems relating to fisheries management on a national and international basis. The study not only reveals some deficiencies in Philippine fisheries management policies but also cities the country's mounting problems with neighboring nations arising from the use of a shared resource. The book also provides important insights into present an future trends in fishery resource use in Southeast Asian and West Pacific seas, transnational and international ocean management and the potential problems and opportunities for national and international interaction.The book is a valuable reference material for fishery students, teachers, researchers, marine fishery administrators, government officials, and the various elements concerned with the thriving local tuna fishing industry. |
