Charter President of the Philippine Political Science Association, which was organized in 1962, he was Chairman of the Department of Political Science, University of the Philippines (UP) in 1963-1966. He served as faculty member of the Department of Political Science at UP to thirty-one years, from 1953 to 1984. He was appinted as the first Manuel A. Roxas Professor of Political Science of the Up from 1973 to 1977. After retirement from UP in December 1984, he joined the De La Salle University, where he served as Aurelio Calderon Professor of Philippine American Relations in 1985 and as Lorenzo Tañada Professor of Political Science from 1986 to 1988. He also served as visiting Professor of Political Science at the University of Hawaii and the University of South Florida and as Visiting Professor of Political Science in Ohio University (USA) and the University of Benin (Nigeria) Dr. Agpalo is the author of three other books, several monographs, and numerous articles. In 1988, UP appointed him professor Emeritus of Political Science and in 1990, he became the first political scientist to be given the award of National Social Scientist (Political Science) by the Philippine Social Science Council. He is included in the IBC's Dictionary of International Biography, 28th Edition, 2000, Outstanding People of the 20th Century, Second Edition, 2001, and Who's Who in Asia and the Pacific Nations, Fourth Edition, 1999. Professor Remigio Agpalo's favorite hobby is tennis. A collection of eighteen essays, which originally were delivered as lectures, read as papers, or submitted as journal articles, this book records the intellectual voyage in political science by Dr. Remigio E. Agpalo as atudent, teacher, researcher, and professor. Although this volume covers practically all the important areas of political science-political dynamics, comparative government and politics, Philippine government and politics, political philosophy, political theory and methodology, and Constitutional law-its foci are on Philippine government and politics and modernization and political development. What is unique in this volume is the attempt of Professor Agpalo to analyze Philippine politics and goverment by means of concepts, typologies, or models based on Filipino culture and history. Among the models which are found in this volume are those on political systems, interested groups, legitimacy, and political leaders |
