| Summary, etc. | The contemporary crisis in Philippine society has spurred a wide spectrum of groups to offer various formulas and programs for change. The reprint of M.A.N.'s Goal -- the program of the Movement for the Advancement of Nationalism -- is, therefore, opportune. It will provide the reader with some insights into the conditions of the country and the political ferment of the late 1960s. Embodying as it does the perceptions of a wide range of groups on the roots of crisis and their approach to national problems, it may be instructive to compare it with programs advanced by many groups today. In my introduction to the 1969 edition, I stated that the M.A.N. program was just a beginning, which was characterized by dis satisfactions among those who participated because no one got his way completely. Accommodations had to be made to preserve unity so that, in fact, "the satisfaction of all" was "premised on the dissatisfaction of all" -- a condition which those engaged in forging unity among diverse groups today are likewise experiencing. --From the foreword |
