"The speeches in this book," says Haydee Yorac in her introduction, "are reminders that those who believe in democracy, freedom, and human dignity have expressed themselves clearly categorically --in the face of open and tacit challenges-- to act on this belief when circumstances arise that make it necessary. Justice Sarmiento has set the example in these speeches and in the life that he has lived and the choices that he has made. Justice Sarmiento served the government in various capacities.
