520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc. This new series comprises reprints as well as original works covering various aspect of African life--history, institutions, culture, political and social thought, and eminent African personalities. As "Africana" in the title indicates, the term "African is used liberally and includes persons of African descent in the New World whose life and work were clearly and deeply identified with Africa. Thus, although the books were written at different times and places and vary in objectives, there is a natural unity to all. Some clearly represent and argue a point of view. Yet, all reveal the many fronts on which Africans engaged in the effort for the "expansion of the stature of man in Africa." Thus, even the most scholarly of these works was in some respects informed by the passion for African emancipation, and all or most of the books reveal a remarkable continuity in the ideas and concerns of African intelligentsia. The reprints for the most part are landmarks in Africa writing and each will contain a new introduction placing the author's life, ideas and activities in perspective. The original publications include basic documents and articles long buried and scattered in journals, magazines, newspapers, or in private collections. The documents are selected either by author or by topic and each is compiled and edited by scholars working in particular field. It is hoped that these documents will not only provide scholars with source materials but also stimulate further research on the topics with which they deal.
