Summary, etc. | Students' evaluation of teachers is considered a very good means of acquiring feedback from the students. However, the reliability and validity of this form of evaluation has also been the subject of many debates especially when its result is used in making personnel decisions. This study intends to better understand the way students evaluate their teachers, particularly the different themes and patterns in their written comments. It used Grounded Theory methodology in analyzing the written comments of the students regarding their Religious Education teacher as found in the evaluation form administered by the staff of DLSUD's Institutional Testing and Evaluation Office (ITEO) during the School Year 2009-2010. The comments of the students were classified into 69 keywords, 9 categories, and 3 core categories. The 3 core categories correspond to 3 core characteristics that students prefer in their teachers namely: mabait, mahusay, and masaya. Consequently, this study proposes the theory that students evaluate their teachers based on three core characteristics. The evaluation of students are manifestations of the presence or absence of the core characteristics in their teacher. It was also determined that students' comments represent their likes and dislikes in a teacher. This study also found out that the REED teachers are rated "very satisfactory" by students with a total mean score of 4.34. Finally, the researcher suggests some possible ways of improving the conduct of students' evaluation in DLSU-D. |
