Summary, etc. The thirteen contributions to this book provide a comprehensive introduction to the Philippine corpus of English, and demonstrate a range of approaches for describing and analyzing the grammatical and lexical features of Philippine English. Full credit should go to the core team of Filipino researchers based at De La Salle University for their detailed and painstaking work in compiling the corpus and their ongoing work in annotating the corpus for grammatical analysis. Credit is due to the international researchers who also make an important contribution to this volume. The result, in this collection of papers, is a detailed and fine-grained analysis of the Philippine variety of English, which serves as a benchmark for the growing sophistication and maturity of linguistic studies of Philippine English. Prof. Dr. KINGSLEY BOLTON Chair Professor of English and Head of Department Department of English, City University of Hong Kong Ma. Lourdes S. Bautista is Professor Emeritus at De La Salle University. She finished her PhD in linguistics at the Ateneo de Manila University _ Philippine Normal College Consortium and did postdoctoral studies in sociolinguistics at Georgetown University and the University of Pennsylvania. She has been a visiting professor at Ohio University, the University of Michigan, the University of Hawaii, and Waseda University. She has written a number of articles and books on sociolinguistics, especially Tagalog-English code-switching and Philippine English, and she was the project director of the Philippine component of the international Corpus of English project. Her current research activities center on descriptive and comparative studies of Philippine English.
