520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc. This volume is a collection of 11 articles on the Negrito populations of northeastern Luzon. Refered to as "Agta" in this work, these peoples number about 9,000 and occupy relatively inaccessible coastal and mountainous zones in the provinces of Quezon, Isabela, and Cagayan. Based on research begun in 1972 in southeast Cagayan, the work's stated aims are to present ecological and "materialist" studies of the Negrito populations of northeastern Luzon and to provide information about the distribution of these relatively unstudied populations. This compilation presents valuable preliminary ethnobotanical, ethnozoological, human biological, and linguistic surveys, and a wealth of ethnographic detail on the Agta as foragers, hunters, and traders. P. Bion Griffin's historical outline of this research, in the first of his three articles, describes its beginnings at the University of the Philippines, at the National Museum, and with the Summer Institute of Linguistics in the 1960s. --Cambridge.org
