Summary, etc. Tourism and hospitality is fast becoming one of the most important social and economic activities in the world today. The number of domestic and international travelers are steadily increasing. Many countries are seeking to develop tourism and hospitality for its many benefits. Whether for pleasure or for business, travel demand is rapidly increasing. Higher incomes, more leisure time, changing lifestyles, increasing overseas visit, and a growing number of retirees all indicate that the tourism and hospitality industry will continue to expand. The industry has responded to the increased growth opportunity with new hotels, resort destinations, and convention centers, as well as growing local service industries which support the needs of the tourist. Tourism and hospitality is an industry that employs more people worldwide than any other enterprise. It is an industry that will be the world's largest by the year 2030. Obviously, an industry of this size has a tremendous impact on the lives of individuals and economies of nations. The explosive growth of the tourism and hospitality industry has created a demand for professionals who are committed to professional careers in the industry. It demands the services of well-trained, enthusiastic, and responsible individuals. This book is designed as an introductory textbook for tourism and hospitality students of the different colleges and universities offering tourism and hospitality courses. It will also be helpful for tourism faculty, persons involved in national, regional, and internati onal tourism and hospitality associations, in transportation, accommodation, food and beverage, entertainment, tour operations, travel agencies, and as an in-service training course for personnel employed in the tourism and hospitality field. The text has been researched and developed with a conceptual framework in mind that is based on my experiences in teaching tourism subjects at the college and graduate levels and in in-service situations. The theories, concepts, and principles presented in the book came from several sources-books, travel journals, interviews, observations, discussions, speeches, and papers presented at national, regional, and international seminars and conferences. The references at the end of each chapter have been carefully selected and include the most authoritative publications on the subject. The book is aligned with the ASEAN MRA (Mutual Recognition Arrangements) for tourism professionals to ensure that graduates of tourism and hospitality courses are adequately prepared for the requirements of the industry and thereby globally competitive. In addition, the book is based on the course description of the subject, Micro Perspective in Tourism and Hospitality, found in the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Memorandum Order No. 62 Series of 2017. The CMO sets the policies, standards, and guidelines for BS Tourism Management and BS Hospitality Management institutions to ensure that their future graduates are knowledgeable and highly skilled. This book was written in consultation with industry and academic professionals to address the problem of mismatch between the needs of the industry and graduates of tourism and hospitality institutions. This book is more affordable than similar books written by foreign authors. A number of pedagogical features have been integrated in the book to help students better understand the information presented. This book follows an outcome-based approach, with Learning Outcomes, Summary, Discussion Questions, Chapter Activities, Key Terms and Concepts, Chapter Quiz, and References. This book has 15 chapters which discuss the following: the psychology of travel, the sociology of travel, tourism and culture, transportation sector, accommodation sector, food and beverage sector, recreation and leisure, tourist attractions, MICE sector, tourism marketing, tourism promotion, tourism distribution channel, tourism planning, tourism development, and employment opportunities and qualifications. --Rexestore.com.
