This study presents the results of research carried on among the Tagbanuwa of Palawan Island, Philippines, from October 5, 1950 through March 2, 1951. The actual field work was sponsored by the Philippine National Museum, Manila, under the Directorship of Dr. Eduardo Quisumbing. The writer was attached to this institution as an anthropologist from 1947 until 1951. Additional financial support for the field trip to Palawan was extended by Professor H. Otley Beyer, University of the Philippines, and by Mr. Louis Sheff, Manila businessman. --Preface of the book.
