This book covers the fundamentals of a course in mathematics of investment. It is intended for upper-level undergraduate students of accounting, business and finance, economics, marketing, management, and applied mathematics. It combines the traditional materials of mathematics of investment with relatively new ideas are made to our ever changing economic needs. Presentations of concepts and ideas are made more meaningful through a variety of examples and illustrations in the Philippine setting. however, we did not neglect the universal concepts of mathematics, hence, we have also drawn some examples from outside the Philippines. The book is divided into eight chapters. The topics progress logically beginning with simple interest and simple discount, and leading conveniently through the topics on compound interest, annuities with a variety of applications, perpetuities, bonds, depreciation, and basics of life insurance. Each chapter contains brief and simple explanations of pertinent definitions and principles fully illustrated by updated, simplified, and enhanced examples. These are followed by a carefully selected set of exercises, with may aid the student in preparing for any examination or in testing his mastery of the subject.
