Summary: Cavite sa Digmaan is the latest addition to the body of historical materials about this province which had seen important local events that became part of the national story. The author Emmanual Franco Calairo outlined in his work the participation of Cavite as part of the national struggle from a colony to an independent nation. Already there are many works on Cavite history most of which discuss Cavite's role in the first half of the the Philippine Reovulution from the battle of Imus in September 1896 to the exucution of Andress Bonifacio in May 1897. But Dr. Calairo worte down the history of struggle in Cavite from 1745 to 1897. What makes his work different is his treatment of the role of Cavite during the Filipino-American War when most authors are talking about events north of Manila from the battle of Polo to Aguinaldo's capture in Palanan. What happened in Cavite after the capture of Aguinaldo was ably discussed by Dr. Calairo to the time when the ambers of the struggle flickered until 1915 (not 1914, as may authors wrote) withe the execution of Mariano Noriel. Using various primary accounts and documents, Dr. Calairo has actually pieced together a master work on a national struggle centering on the province of Cavite. His writing are considered a model for other historical writers doing their work on how a locality can influence national history as well as how national events can be reflected on events on the localities.
