Viñetas Caviteñas (Cavite Vignettes) were drawn from the observations of colonial personalities ensconced in the vicinity at various periods of Spanish, later American, presence in the Philippines. Emanating from variegated forms and motifs including travel-books and other travelogues, reviews and journals, periodicals, ecclesiastical and missionary materials, military reports and accounts, and government expedients, it is the aim of the publication to provide an original flavor and depiction of Cavite's past to the tone of costumbrismo of the simplified and often romanticized literary or pictorial interpretation of local everyday life, mannerisms, and customs, illuminating that has been left of what used to be largely Hispanic scenes in the province.
