Summary: This edition to be known as the 2012 Philippine Mechanical Engineering Code will address the above mandate as stated in Chapter 1 Administration Section 1.02, Purpose, as follows: "To establish minimum requirements of protection to public safety and health thru mechanical engineering, indoor air quality thru adequate air conditioning and ventilation; carbon dioxide mitigation thru energy conservation; to preserve life and protect property from damage and other hazards attributed by fire and smoke; and provide safety to fire fighters and emergency responders during emergency operations". "To regulate and control the design, construction, installation, quality of materials, location, operation, and maintenance or use of mechanical systems, equipment, appliances and appurtenances within the jurisdiction of R.A. 8495 known as the Mechanical Engineering Law". In addition, the Philippine being a recipient of the disastrous effect of climate change, this Code so desires to help migrate carbon emission through the global advances of technology in energy efficiency and renewable energy, the 2010 PSVARE Standard on Energy Efficient Buildings and its future editions will be adopted and shall form part of this Code. There are a total of 29 chapters in this edition to comply with Republic Act No. 8495 specifically Article 1 and Section 35, which shows that we have to take the first step and stand united with our fellow engineers in the mechanical engineering profession. --Back cover of the book
