Summary: The essays in this book are grouped into four sections. In the first group are reflection about things and places in Asia, Europe and America. These essays belong to the same series and were written in the same spirit as those in my earlier volume: 'The Lights of Broadway and Other Essays' (New Day, 1980). As I said in the Preface to that book, these essays are not intended as a travelogue but as reflections made afterwards when things seen in other lands were "recollected in tranquility" (to use Wordsworth's phrase) or "imperfectly remembered" (to use Hawthorne's)... Almost all of these essays have originally appeared in shorter form in my weekly column, "Reflections," in the 'Philippine Sunday Express.'...The essays have been revised and in some cases entirely rewritten for inclusion in this volume... -Miguel A. Bernard, S.J.
