This book analyses the historical roots of poverty in the Philippines, arguing that poverty cannot be alleviated without tackling the unjust economic structures of the country. It also addresses the crucial question of agrarian reform and what exactly is needed for such a policy to effective in eliminating rural poverty. It also draws out the historical links between agrarian reform programmes and counter-insurgency campaigns. Finally, it presents an overview of the political forces in the Philippines including an analysis of what happened in the 'February 1986 Revolution' and the reality of People Power.
