There is no attempt here to write a detailed history of Philippine contemporary art. That history is still being made - in the dingy corners of dearth - stricken unknowns driven by ambition and in the bright airy studios of those who have made it. What the book portrays is a chronicle of that vital span of years from 1950 to the present which was modern art rise from jeer to cheer, from curse to praise. This was brought about by a number of events which were not planned parts of a move. But time has woven a thread through these random days and ways so that they can now be seen as a whole from one fixed point of view.
