Summary: but they can also become tools of distortion when used by well-meaning but ideologically less-prepared reporters. --Introduction of the book.Summary: Pope John Paul II made his apostolic journey to the Philippines from 17 to 12 February 1981, arriving on Tuesday, 17 February at 7:56 a.m. and departing on Sunday, 22 February at 1:56 p.m. In between he delivered twenty-eight addresses, travelled many thousands of miles, and conquered millions of hearts. In his short address to the representatives of the media on the eve of his departure the Holy Father emphasized the nedd of "fidelity to the truth and commitment to fraternal love" as necessary qualities for good reporting. When it comes to presenting the Pope's own ideas, therefore, it seems that the best way of following his advice will be to offer the complete text of his speeches. People then can see for themselves what the Pope really said without de-contextualizing his ideas, or pershaps even perverting the real mind of the Pope as expressed in his addresses. Abstracts, summaries and especially interpretations of the Pope's thought may be useful
