This volume includes nine contributions on the topic at hand and a comprehensive research bibliography on Palawan studies, covering both foreign and Philippine scholarship about Palawan. The introduction provides a general overview of the Palawan region, examines Palawan's role as a twentieth-century Philippine frontier, and previews the papers that follow. Some critical lacunae in Palawan studies are also identified and some topics that particularly need further research are suggested.
