The book explores the genesis of the Philippine statecraft and culture from its hazy beginnings in the 6th to 16th centuries, and highlights the discovery, decipherment and analysis of what can be earliest Philippine document: the Laguna Copperplate Inscription dated 900 A.D. The book also delves into the background of the Brunei incursion into the Manila Bay area, the passage of such figures as Rajah Matanda and Rajah Soliman, contact with the Spaniards and the aftermath of the Spanish conquest.
