This book A Manual of Political Economy, while it begins with a simple explanation of the main rival schools of thought - the Ricardians, the Marxists, the neo-classics and the Keynesians- developed the discussion in such a way that it brings out links between the First and the Third World. Among the many topics covered in the book are: a comprehensive account of commodity society, the institutionalized exploitation of labor by capital, the on-going world economic crisis and the contradictions in the development of capitalist industrialization in Asia. There are also important sections on feudalism and the Asiatic mode of production, which are studied from the angle that their method of appropriating economic surplus needs to be understood to comprehend more fully the fast moving events in Asian political economy today.
