Summary: This book was conceptualized in mid-1993, soon after I invited Dr. Margie Holmes to be one of the 15 contributors to Coming to Terms, the book I was editing then. It was Margie who excitedly broached the idea of the counterpart men-in-midlife book to her dear friend Ralph Chee Kee, then the provincial news editor of the Philippine Daily Inquirer. Ralph glady accepted Margie's challenge, but daily deadlines and an illness that forced him slow down got in the way. In the meantime, Coming to Terms went into its third printing (and won a National Book Award for the best anthology) and in mid-1996 Anvil's Karina Bolasco asked me if, with Ralph's permission, I could edit the book he had begun. --From the Introduction
