This Composite Vocabulary of the major Philippine languages is a collaborative project carried on by the INL researchers representing the eight major Philippine tounges: Bikol, Kapampangan, Hiligaynon, Ilokano, Pangasinan, Samr-Leyte, Sebuano, and Tagalog. The starting point of this work is the study of a considerable number of words with identical or similar form (sound components) and meaning found in languages in the Philippines. A list of Pilipino lexical items are selected on the basis of their frequent occurrence in Pilipino publications and other mass media were given corresponding equivalents in other seven major languages. Foreign terms that are regarded as completely naturalized Pilipino terms are liberally included. The Pilipino entry words have been arranged in alphabetical. Words in the major languages have been spelled in accordance with the INL orthography and checked with at least one native speaker of each major language.
