Filipino Thought is a compilation of Leonardo N. Mercado's selected writings from 1994. Part I (Preliminary Considerations) begins with the notion of Filipino philosophy and of Filipino ethics. It is followed by a chapter on using language as a methodology for the construction of Filipino philosophy. Part II (Some Aspects of Filipino Philosophy) starts with the Filipino translation of being. The metaphysical consideration is followed by the concept of evil. Then the section continues to the notion of hero and Filipino ethics. Part III (The New Paradigm) begins with Descartes who was responsible for sowing the seeds of modern thought. It is followed by the chapter on religious tolerance in the light of the new paradigm. The final chapter ("Paradigm Shifts and Filipino Philosophy") looks back on the previous chapters and gives them a synthesis.
