Subject(s): Summary: This second edition came about as a result of the suggestions and recommendations of colleagues in the field of philosophy and of philosophy of education. In response to this clamor for a revision and after six years of continuous use, there is a need to come out with a version that incorporates such suggestions in order to mirror the changes expected in the third millennium. What is needed in this millennium is a "new humanism" in the face of the tremendous stride wrought by science. Man experiences alienation and a sudden loss of identity. In other words, he does not know himself anymore because of a rapid pace of dehumanization. It is for this reason that the author included an additional chapter on "Phenomenology and Existentialism in Philosophy of Education" to show the need to bring man back to his pedestal which he used to occupy. Man is the king of creation and will continue to be so. He had been reserved the right to be so. Lastly, a comparative table showing the stand of the various philosophies is also provided for easy reference both for the beginner and the uninitiated.
