At present, the computer serves mainly either to transfer and improve concepts that already exist or to build more quickly and effectively. Its potential as a knowledge base for architecture has still not been fully explored. Gerhard Schmitt intends to illustrate a number of aspects of this new territory and to demonstrate how the pool of information accumulated in the data bases could be exploited and elaborated as the "fifth dimension" of architecture.
