Part I introduces the intellectual history of the discipline, the major approaches within the field, and on-going theoretical debates, including those between rationalist and constructivist approaches. Part II outlines the key concepts and contextual factors central to contemporary International Relations ( IR ) research and introduces a number of the core analytical concerns that have come to characterize the field. Topics include sovereignty, power, international orgnaization, and globaliization. Part III reviews a number of the key substanstive processes and issues in IR. Subjects included are finance, trade, development, the environment, and human rights.
