Summary: A revolution without a humanist dimension, without cultural roots, is nothing more than a struggle for material things. Ever since he acceded to the Presidency, Ferdinand E. Marcos has adhered to this precept, which he enunciated in 1972. He has cultivated the nonpolitical seedlings of a democratic revolution he has sought to implant in the country. In the same spirit, the Philippine Art and Culture Series has been conceived, with an eye on the general reader, Filipino or foreigner. The humanist revolution Mr. Marcos speaks of, reflected in the Filipinos' cultural self-confidence, seems on the way to being won. --From the back cover
