A Mandaya folktale that shows how the search for food plays an important role in human life. Bakiwos, during a great famine, fortunately walks into a lush coconut grove and finds lots of nuts just waiting to be harvested. He encounters and insults an ugly old woman, the owner of the grove-who he later discovers to be a powerful fairy. The fairy punishes him by turning him into a huge crocodile. She then creates a lake for him to inhabit. This story is an adaptation of a folktale, and is a Series Three in the Mandaya and Mansaka Folk Tales, a set of books for children.
