Summary: The work in this collection is valuable primarily for giving us a perspective in the development of vernacular literature. It should give us an idea, for instance, how the Lineyte-Samarnon, often referred to as Waray, literature compare in quality with other regional literatures, in the decades from the thirties through the sixties, when Philippine literature in English showed robust growth. More specifically, while writers in English in the ares of poetry, fiction, and drama were working with critical awareness, a number of them demonstrating genuine artistic skill, the Waray poets, if this collection were the basis for evaluation, were still languishing in cloying nineteenth century romanticism. --From Prefatory note
