This little book is designed to guide both instructor and student in the reading and in the study of Philippine literature in English, from its inception in 1898 to its present literary activity. It serves to introduce our students to the authors and writers who have contributed to the literature in English of our country and to place or situate these authors and writers in historical context, although in most instances, in tentative literary periods. It, however, facilitates in understanding the nature, the forms, and the periods of Philippine literary history. --From the preface
