The year 1986 will be recorded as a major victory for the Filipino people. For no nation has done what we did in four days. Twenty years under a rapacious ruler nearly stripped us of our dreams and hopes for a better life. But Marcos's hasty departure gave us a new sense of pride in ourselves as Filipinos. Not that those four days in February could have been possible without long years of struggle and sacrifice. At the start of martial law, only a few dared speak up against the injustices of the time. Thankfully, however, the courage show to us by his brave minority was contagious. --From the foreword
