Estrella Alfon was a student writing to the literary contests first conducted by Alfredo Elfrea Litiatco in the pre-war Graphic. Encouragement by that charming tireless correspondents led to a prolificity in short story production that quickly put her under the notice and acceptance of other editiors, notably A.V.H. Hartendorp of the Philippine Magazine and the late Francisco Icasiano of the Sunday Tribune. --From the back cover
