Filipiniana collections in the country are few and not readily accessible to the reading public. This is due to the fact that quite a number of items in these collections, which where printed here or abroad in small editions, are now very rare and those who possess them understandably allow only limited use in order to preserve them. This situation has been remedied to a certain extent by the admirable efforts of concerned groups such as the Filipiniana Book Guild and the Historical Conservation Society. Their projects, together with the reprint of the 55-volume Blair and Robertson's The Philippine Islands by Cacho Hermanos and the Eugenio Lopez Foundation's publication of John R.M. Taylor's The Philippine Insurrection Against the United States, have made more Filipiniana materials available to non-collectors. Still, the list remains woefully short. --From the introduction
