This book is designed as an introduction to a study of Philippine mass media. As an introduction, this book of readings provides data, information, and ideas that should contribute towards and understanding of mass media in our country. The readings are divided into four sections. The first, "Historical Perspective", presents an overview of the development of media in the country. The second section, "Media Economics", discusses the practical aspect of the business of mass media. The third section, "Critical Appraisal" provides critical analyses of mass media in the country. The fourth section, "Directions" assesses the various possible roles of media, particularly in a developing country like the Philippines. The articles provide ideas that should help us chart the development of media in our country.
