The authors and selections included here have been judged competent by their homegrown critics. Further, they reflect the life of the people from they emanate. Where several works by the same author are judged equal as literature - as the dance dramas of Rabindranath Tagore, for instance - those selected for inclusion here offer the "foreign" reader more value by way of cultural insights.
