Longfellow's Song of Hiawatha was still a basic text in grade seven of the school curriculum in 1934. As a culminating activity of the project of grade seven classes, it was agreed by the student government that the Song off Hiawatha will be staged during the Commencement Exercises. It occurred that not only the graduation classes were concerned in the completion of the project but the whole school. --From the foreword
