Summary: Magdalena Gonzaga Malagduni was the first woman novelist of the Philippines. She was only 16 or 17 years old when she wrote her first novel, Mga Tunoc sang Isa Ca Bulac ( Thorns of a Flower), which was published by La Editorial in Iloilo City in 1907. She wrote 49 novels, of which 21 were published, 8 unpublished, and 20 burned during the war. She has also written her three autobiographies, plays, corridors, narrative poems, short stories, essays, and lyric poems. She was awarded the Republic Cultural Heritage Award in 1969 (U.P. Press).
