The authors demonstrate in this book that Ramos, the twelfth President of the Republic of Philippines, succeeded in pulling together a team that successively addressed the political, economic and social foundations of a nation for the new millennium, and achieved a target per capita income of the country well before its target date. While not a history of the Ramos administration, the authors examine most of its achievements and crises, tracing their roots in the leadership of a professional soldier, an engineer with a grasp of the large social structure (a Protestant in a predominantly Catholic country) and a global picture shaped by a family steeped in diplomacy, and a practitioner of formally-learned management principles. This book is akin to the "authorized" biographies of American Presidents in recent years, whose authors have been provided privileged time and access to the highest levels of an administration's people and papers. These sources of information have been enriched with interviews of Philippine and global leaders who have come to know the signature FVR formula of people empowerment and global competitiveness for national development.
