He has an MFA in Writing from Washington University in St. Louis and was a writing fellow at the Hawthornden Castle International Retreat for Writers in 1991 and the Bellagio Study and Conference Center in 1993. He has published five volumes of poetry. JOSE Y. DALISAY JR. writers fiction in English and plays in Filipino-as well as his weekly "Barfly" column for the style section of today. Four of his books have won National Book Awards from the Manila Critics Circle. He teaches English and creative writing at the University of the Philippines.
