Bombita, the main character, Salvador Bombita is a version of Don Pedro, the first son who turns into stone. He is the loving, obedient son who is committed to folllow his father's will, the father int his case being the Philippine Air Force. Yet, he fails in his mission when he must make a choice, two fo the choices being the death of the Other and the death of the Self. In Biyaheng Timog, Cyril Perez, a painter and the outsider in the family, is a variant of Don Diego, the second son who also turns into stone, He comes to terms with the reality that true love and true life have concomitant shadows that require painful sacrifices. In Sa North Diversion Road, Perez sees the husband Lalaki,un-named until the last scene when he is finally identified as Tony, a pop music composer, as the Prince Juan who ironically discovers that the Bird of Love is not necessarily the Bird of Life.
