Brief History

The De La Salle University - Dasmariñas High School Learning Resource Center (DLSU-D HS LRC) opened its doors to the JHS community on July 28, 2014.It was previously located on the ground floor of the JHS Building 1 with a total floor area of 252 sq. meters and a seating capacity of 74 users at a time. Because of the increase in the population in the JHS, it was transferred to its current location at the JHS Building 2. It now occupies two floors with a 300 sq.m area on the first floor and 260 sq.m area on the ground floor. From the previous 74 seating capacity, it can now accommodate up to 170 students at a time. It houses different types of fiction and non-fiction books, serials collection, multimedia materials, board games, and equipment. The whole LRC is Wi-Fi-enabled and equipped with Macintosh and Window based computers, two web OPAC terminals, a Library Management System (KOHA), and Patron Log-in system. The Learning Resource Center currently has more than 7,000 printed collections in Fiction, Reference, Filipiniana, Reserve, and Lasalliana collection. It also subscribes to 11 magazines and journals. The LRC is under the administration of the Aklatang Emilio Aguinaldo - Information Resource Center (AEA-IRC).

Mission and Vision

The Learning Resource Center is envisioning itself as the incubator of knowledge, hub of creativity, and information literacy partner of the High School Department. It strives to become a creative partner in the achievement of DLSU-D High School's goal in teaching, learning, and research. The mission of LRC is to provide instruction to stimulate interest in reading and using information and ideas that shall equip students with life-long learning skills. This mission is accomplished by:
  • providing resources, services, and facilities necessary to meet the learning and information needs of the High School community;
  • supporting all members of the junior high school community to become critical thinkers and effective users of information in all formats and media; and
  • working with the high school community to become a creative partner in the achievement of DLSU-D-HS goal in teaching, learning, and research.

Policies and Guidelines

Scanning of JHS Identification (ID)
The Learning Resource Center (LRC) is strictly implementing the No-ID-No-Entry Policy. Scanning of ID is required upon entering the library and in all library transactions such as borrowing and returning of items and the use of computers. This is also necessary in keeping track of student’s visits and exits from the library.

Access & Borrowing
The library access and borrowing policy explains the privileges and responsibilities of all who will borrow resources from the Learning Resource Center. It is the priority of the library to give the users easy access to the library collection to support teaching, learning, and research needs. This policy aims to ensure that access to resources is enjoyed by the DLSU-D high school community.

Borrower's Responsibility

Borrowers are responsible for all the resources charged to their account until the borrowed items have been returned. They are expected to:

  • exercise care in handling all library resources and return all items on time and in good condition;
  • renew resources on or before the due date;
  • inform the library personnel of items that cannot be returned on the due date;
  • report immediately about the lost and damaged books or items.

House Rules

The Learning Resource Center advocates #LRCIcareIsustainIbelong to instill a sense of responsibility to every library user in taking care of its resources and facilities, realizing the value of preservation, understanding ownership, and accountability. The library believes that this advocacy encourages positive change in attitude among library users.


I CARE – instilling the value of solicitude, an attitude of earnest concern or attention to other library users, and to the library resources/facilities.

I SUSTAIN – developing the value of preservation to maintain and keep the library resources/facilities in good condition for the future generation of users.

I BELONG – developing a sense of affinity for ownership or proprietorship, thus, creating a culture of accountabilityover library resources/facilities.

Document Delivery Service (DDS)

Document Delivery Service(DDS) is one of the services provided by the Aklatang Emilio Aguinaldo-Information Resource Center (AEA-IRC) and Learning Resource Center that allow library patrons to request copy of published articles, book or book chapters available in print/electronic/online needed for research that are held at the library’s collections and are available from partner libraries. Requests are submitted online through document delivery service form. This service is free of charge and shall be sent through email, courier, or pick-up. Document Delivery Service of the library is guided by the fair use provision in the Philippine Copyright Law.

Learning Studio for High School Faculty

The Learning Studio has been created for high school teachers to support innovative, flexible, and collaborative learning paradigm required by the ANIMO Strategy. The studio is segmented into four (4) breakout spaces which offer opportunities for teachers’ preparation of demonstration lessons, collaboration, and other more focused activities to augment online teaching. Each breakout space is equipped with two (2) iMac computer units with internet connection, mirrorless camera, ring light, tripod for camera/phone, condenser microphone and high intensity web cameras. Booking is on first-come-first-serve basis using applicable online forms.

Borrowing Privileges

High school students may borrow from the Circulation, Fiction, and Filipiniana collection. However, Reference, Lasalliana, and Periodicals as well as Board Games are for library room use only.

  • Students are allowed to borrow three (3) books at a time for a period of seven (7) days from the Circulation, Fiction, and Filipiniana collection.
  • Collection under Reserve may be borrowed for overnight use and must be returned the following day (except Saturdays and Sundays).
  • For a 60-day overdue book or item, the borrower will be billed for the replacement cost.
  • In case the lost book was found after its replacement and the borrower still decides to return the material, the item shall be considered as donation from the borrower.

Renewal of Materials

Resources from the Circulation, Fiction, and Filipiniana collection may be renewed for another seven (7) days provided that there is no pending request from other library user.

Damaged or Lost Library Materials

Library user who lost or damaged, intentionally or accidentally, any library material is required to pay and/or replace the lost or damaged materials.

Replacements

In the case of lost or damaged library material, a library user may replace the material with the same copy of the book in the latest edition. The Librarian will approve the replacement of the item. A processing fee of P200.00 per item replacement is required. The borrower is responsible for searching a replacement for the lost/damaged resource. Assistance may be given to the borrower in case he has difficulty looking for the resource.

For a 60-day overdue book or item, the borrower will be billed for the replacement cost.

In case the lost book was found after its replacement, and the borrower still decides to return the material, the item shall be considered as donation from the borrower.

Circulation Notices

Overdue notices will be sent through DLSU-D email and carbon copy (cc) the class adviser after the book due date. Failure to receive a notice does not exempt the user from fines.

Assessment of Charges

Library borrowers are subject to replacement or damage charges when:

  • library material is reported lost.
  • library material is returned in irreparably damaged condition.
  • the borrower fails to return library resources on the due date and receives the replacement bill (a resource that is overdue for 60 days).
  • library material is mutilated.
  • If a reported lost item is found and returned, only overdue fines for the item shall be billed to the borrower.

Referral Letter Request

High School faculty who would like to conduct research at the Aklatang Emilio Aguinaldo - Information Resource Center may request for a referral letter at the Circulation Counter.

Guidelines in the Use of Computers

The LRC has provided iMac (Macintosh) computer units for students’ or teachers’ use. Internet access from LRC computers may only be used for school-related work and research. These computer units are subject to rules and policies stated below:

  • Utilization of computer is on a first-come first-served basis.
  • Only students with validated I.D. are allowed to use the computer.
  • Students who are officially logged-in are the only ones allowed to use the computer; Reservation for or through a friend/classmate is not allowed.
  • Users must stay at the computer terminal assigned to them. Swapping of computer number or terminal is prohibited.
  • Students who are still logged-in and wish to continue in the next time slot are required to finish their usage period first before logging-in again.
  • Users who wish to avail of printing services must save their document/s only to designated shared folder (my Documents) of the computer assigned to them. Printing form should be filled-out for easy retrieval of documents. Applicable fee shall be imposed:
    • Printing (Colored, black and white ) : PHP 5.00 /page
    • Printing with graphics (Colored, black and white): PHP 10.00 / page


  • Students with unsettled accountabilities (i.e. overdue books, fines, lost library materials, etc.) will not be allowed to use the computer.
  • Plugging in any form of removable drives into the computer units is not allowed.
  • Alteration of the settings or configuration of the equipment or computer is strongly discouraged.
  • Chat, games, and accessing social media accounts are strictly prohibited inside the LRC.

How do I access the library’s subscribed online resources in and off campus?

There are three options to access our online resources:
  • Use the search box available at the front page of the library website. This allows you to search all the online resources in one search engine.
  • Go directly to an online database by clicking the links available on the library website.
  • Log on to your OpenAthens account and click on the different online databases available.
Note: All options require OpenAthens account to search and/or download full-text resources
 
What is an OpenAthens account?

An OpenAthens account is a single sign-on identity and access management system subscribed by the library that provides seamless entry to all online resources.
 
How can I request for an OpenAthens account?
^
Here are the three easy steps to secure an OpenAthens account:
  • Activate your university email (office 365) account (e.g. jmdelacruz@dlsud.edu.ph, abc1234@dlsud.edu.ph)
  • Send e-mail request to aklatan@dlsud.edu.ph using your DLSU-D e-mail.
  • Fill out the OpenAthens account form sent to your e-mail.
 
What shall I do next when I have answered the online request form for an OpenAthens account?

An automated message will be sent to your university email informing you of your username. Also, a link to set your password is included in the message.

Once you have set up your password, you may access our online resources.
 
How can I request a PlagScan account?
^
Send a message to aklatan@dlsud.edu.ph requesting for a PlagScan account using your university email (Office 365).
 
What shall I do if the full text article in the online database is not available?
^
Send a message to aklatan@dlsud.edu.ph indicating the title of the article.
 
How can I access the back issues of newspapers?
^
Back issues of newspapers can be accessed from two (2) of our resources :
  • PressReader - backfile of three (3) months from daily newspapers and even popular magazines accessible online through Openathens account.
  • Newspapers in DVD - available at the Serials Section. Backfiles cover:
    • The Philippine Star (2001-2002 and 2005-December 2018)
    • The Philippine Daily Inquirer (2001-2002 and 2005-December 2018)
    • Malaya (2007-December 2018)
    • The Manila Times (2007-December 2018)
 
Does AEA-IRC have downloadable electronic books?

Yes. Please check the e-Books link.
 
What shall I do to check the authenticity of my research paper?
^
The library uses PlagScan to check the authenticity of your research paper. For undergraduate students, you may send your document to: aklatanplagiarism@dlsud.edu.ph while Graduate students may request for personal account thru aklatan@dlsud.edu.ph. Use “PlagScan Account” as a subject to easily identify your request.
 
Is it possible to photocopy a thesis?
^
We do not allow photocopying of Theses collection, however, you can borrow a thesis copy that you can use within the premises of the ASC.
 
Can I access the DLSU-D A.I.R. outside the library?
^
DLSU-D A.I.R. is accessible thru the AEA-IRC website and through your OpenAthens account. Due to copyright issue, only the abstract can be downloaded. However, full-text can be accessed at the Theses Section, 3rd Floor, AEA-IRC.
 
Is it possible to request for library resources?
^
Yes, you may request for library resource/s by accomplishing & submitting the Library Resources Request.
 
Can the student borrow audio-visual materials?
^
Yes, a student can borrow audio materials which can be used only in the preview area.
 
Can a faculty member borrow audio-visual materials?
^
Yes but depending on the type of resources to be borrowed. A faculty member can borrow two (2) EMS resources for overnight use only.
 
Can I borrow EMS equipment for classroom/organizational/departmental events or activities?
^
Yes, a faculty member and a student can borrow EMS equipment for classroom/organizational/departmental events or activities; however, only faculty members may borrow an LCD projector.
 
How can I reserve the Library Viewing Room?
^
To reserve the viewing/meeting room, do the following:
 
When is the library open?
^
During regular class days, the library is open from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM (Mondays to Saturdays). During Special Terms, it is open from 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM (Mondays to Fridays) and 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM (Saturdays) and during Semestral Breaks, the library is open from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM (Mondays to Thursdays), 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM (Fridays) and 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM (Saturdays). Please check the AEA-IRC schedule.
 
How can I access all the resources of the AEA-IRC?

You can access the collection of the AEA-IRC through the following:
 
Can iPads be borrowed for overnight use just like books?
^
No. iPads are for room use only and can be borrowed for only 2 hours. Renewal is allowed for another 2 hours if there are no other users.
 
How can I make reservations for the discussion room?
^
The discussion room can be reserved by accomplishing the Discussion Room Online Reservation form. To check if your reservation has been approved, you may visit the Confirmed Discussion Room Online Reservation.
 
How do I get a referral letter if I want to do research in another university?
^
Fill-out the Referral Letter Online Request form. The library personnel will send an e-copy of the referral letter to your email for you to printout.
 
How can I get help with my assignment, research paper, and thesis?
^
To get personal help from a librarian for your assignment, research paper and thesis, you may book a schedule with ARA by accomplishing the ARA Online Appointment Request form. To check if your request is approved, visit the Confirmed ARA Appointment Schedule.
 
Does AEA-IRC accept researchers from other educational institutions?
^
Yes, the AEA-IRC accepts researchers from other universities and institutions from Mondays to Fridays except Wednesdays, Saturdays and during major examination week. Please check our Guidelines to Visiting Researchers.
 
Can I borrow any resources from the library?
^
Yes, depending on the type of resources to be borrowed. Collections of EMS, Serials, Reference and Special collections (IRC, Theses, Faculty Publications, University Publications) can be borrowed for room use only while collections from the Filipiniana, Circulation, American Learning Resource Center and Reserve can be borrowed overnight and/or one week. Please visit the Borrowing and Returning policies and procedures.
