This manual discusses what to do for the common and life-threatening situations, in a step-by-step manner, using illustrations and photographs. The first three chapters provide background information to help the reader examine their role as a first aider and learn how to assess a sick or injured person effectively. Treatments for injuries and conditions is given in specific chapters that follow. Life-saving treatment for an unconscious victim has an entire chapter. Other chapters are grouped by body system, for example Breathing problems, or the type of injury, such as Effects of heat and cold.
