This unbridled onslaught obliterates geographical demarcations, promotes the cultural hegemony of a "global village," threatens the fragile sustainability of natural resources, and sucks the breath out of the life-world. All these are colonizing forms that undercut the autonomy of poor, weak, and helpless nation-states, and compel them to adopt policies and embark on projects dictated by transnational corporate interests. In such a global landscape, the allocation, extraction, and utilization of resources-natural and invented-become imperative for economic and political survival.
